Covid 19 restrictions update
Today we announced that from 11.59pm on 31 May, a number of existing restrictions will be eased, most notably gathering limits will be increased to up to 20 people and overnight stays will now be permitted.
We’ve undoubtedly had to make some tough calls. As the Premier said, we can’t just open the floodgates on everything all at once, and risk throwing away all our hard work. I hope people appreciate the need to be cautious – and careful at this time.
I’m sure people will have questions about why X is allowed if you can’t do Y – but this is not about that.
Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should race out and do it. Let’s use our common sense. We’ve come so far – and together it’s up to all of us to make this work.
If you are able to work from home, and have been doing so – we need you to keep doing that. And you should continue to only to go out for essential reasons. That’s how we stay safe, protect our most vulnerable and keep our health system from being overrun.
If it all goes to plan and we’re tracking okay with our case numbers, we’ll be able to make some more changes later in the month.
We’re all in this together.
