TAKING CARE OF BOURKE STREET FAMILIES
The Andrews Labor Government is ensuring all those affected by the Bourke Street tragedy receive the support they need.
The Bourke Street Fund – set up over the weekend – will be applied to the direct benefit of victims and their families.
It works in addition to existing compensation being made available through the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and WorkSafe Victoria.
For those who lost loved ones following the tragic events of Friday, people physically injured and witnesses, the TAC can cover the cost of:
- Ambulance and hospital care
- Rehabilitation services, including physio and psychologists
- Counselling for individuals, families and couples
- Additional medical services, including surgery, pathology and GP visits
- Prescribed medication
- Travel expenses to and from medical appointments
- Loss of wages
- Funerals and lump sum payment to dependants
WorkSafe will provide similar assistance for people who were at work, on their lunch break and were affected by the incident.
The TAC is proactively working with other government agencies to coordinate support.
Anyone impacted is encouraged to call the TAC as the first point of contact during business hours on 1300 654 329 to discuss their needs.
