New Centre To Prevent Harm To Children
The Andrews Labor Government is helping Kidsafe Victoria warn parents of the risks of non-intentional injuries through new interactive hubs at the Monash Children’s Hospital.
Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos today opened the Kidsafe Victoria Community Support Centre at the 230-bed Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton today.
The new centre includes four interactive hubs focussing on home, road and water safety, and safe play – providing advice to parents, carers and health professionals on a range of child injury hazards.
Each year, around 20 Victorian children die and more than 100,000 will visit a hospital as a result of non-intentional injury, which is the leading cause of hospitalisation and death among infants and children.
The Labor Government is providing $155,291 for child safety and injury prevention information and advice to Maternal and Child Health services, Victorian families and early years services.
The Labor Government has also invested $6.8 million for a new school at the hospital – due to open by the end of the year – which will host around 170 students every day, including hospital in-patients, community based out-patients or children recovering at home.
The Labor Government also works closely with Kidsafe on the annual Never Leave Kids in the Car campaign.
