HELPING TO CELEBRATE MELBOURNE CHILDREN
The Andrews Labor Government is supporting the Melbourne community to host fun and free educational activities and events for local families and children as part of this year’s Children’s Week celebrations.
Jenny Mikakos MP today announced that five organisations based in Melbourne were among the 118 recipients to receive a grant to help host an activity or event during Children’s Week, which runs from 19-27 October.
The week-long national celebration recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children by offering free activities for Victorian families.
ArtPlay, Flemington Library, The Venny, RCH Education Institute and Red Nose will hold a variety of activities including cooking up a storm at a play-dough kitchen and petting Honey the rabbit and Peanut Butter the Guinea Pig the Venny.
Families can now view a calendar and map of activities that will be held across the state as part of Children’s Week by visiting: www.education.vic.gov.au/childrensweek
Children’s Week events are free-of-charge to Victorian families with children aged 0-12 years and are a great opportunity for families to enjoy a fun, engaging and educational experience.
The theme for Children’s Week 2019 celebrates the right of all children to be healthy, safe and happy, based on Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Victorian Government provided grants to not-for-profit organisations and councils across the state to help cover costs associated with running an event such as hiring entertainment, purchasing craft materials, providing food and children’s prizes.
