ANDREWS GOVERNMENT KICKS IN FOR NORTHCOTE ELECTORATE SPORT

Mayer Park, Cnr Normanby Avenue & Leinster Grove, Thornbury, will soon be enjoying modern sports facilities thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Northern Metropolitan Region, Jenny Mikakos, today announced that Mayer Park in the Northcote Electorate was one of the grant recipients in the new round of the Labor Government’s $180 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The grant of $150,000 will upgrade the existing lighting system at Mayer Park to a six-pole 100 lux LED sports-field lighting system.  The upgraded lighting will provide the Darebin United Soccer Club and Darebin Women’s Sports Club (Soccer Club) to increase training and match day opportunities.

Victorian sports clubs are the lifeblood of our communities and they deserve modern, accessible and safe facilities – the Labor Government is delivering those facilities through its Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The fund is developing new sport and active recreation facilities, rejuvenating tired grounds, and ageing clubrooms across the state.

In this round of the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, over 90 projects will be supported across Victoria thanks to a $60 million boost from the Victorian Budget 2018/19.

It’s part of our commitment to promoting sports and active recreation and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.

Across Victoria we have already invested $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities and added a more than half a billion dollars in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to support sport across all levels.

Ms Mikakos acknowledged City of Darebin for its commitment and financial contribution to the project.
