Local achievements

The opening of a new state-of-the-art primary school in Melbourne’s growing outer suburbs has confirmed the Brumby Labor Government’s commitment to education.

The new $7.9 million Laurimar Primary School in Doreen will benefit young families with children in one of Melbourne’s fastest growing suburbs and sit alongside a community activity centre and a new kindergarten.

The new primary school would be the centrepiece of a local education hub and provide families with educational and support services located in one spot. The community will also have access to the school’s state-of-the-art gymnasium, arts and resource centres, as well as outdoor and sporting facilities.

The project was jointly funded by the Brumby and Commonwealth governments and featured a sustainable design that was nominated in the Best Primary School Design category at last year’s Victorian School Design Awards. The school has been fitted with solar panels to provide electricity and water tanks to harvest rainwater.
